📝 What is That Time I Got Drunk and Yeeted a Love Potion at a Werewolf about?:

Brie’s never been particularly coordinated or lucky, which is why she accidentally threw a drink that hit a stranger. To her surprise, that stranger falls madly in love with her because the drink she threw was a love potion. Now, while running her cheese business, Brie has to convince a werewolf that she’s not his fated mate, though she doesn’t mind him doing her chores and telling her she’s beautiful.

📚 Genre: romantasy

This book was a quick read, like That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon. The story flowed but I was caught off guard by the “big bad” showdown. After the first book, though, I just shrugged and went with it. The villain’s weakness was chef’s kiss, and that’s all I’m gonna say about that. We can discuss in the comments once you’ve read the book 😉

Since there are new demons in town, I thought this book would be a cozy small town romance. But the adventure from the first book continues. I would’ve preferred a new foe. But with this being a romantasy trilogy, I understand why Myva is still around. But I don’t understand the rules of magic or how she continues to thrive.

I had been hoping after finishing the first book that, Felix, Cin’s new friends would be the love interest for her bestie, Brie. It was so great to see Brie and Felix hitting it off…even with said love potion calling the shots. I liked the variety of ways that Brie and Felix were in forced proximity. They’re thrown together because of the love potion; they’re fated mates (he says); and they must solve a small town mystery – what a doozy.

Since they are in forced proximity, this romance was going at light-speed – very much the opposite of Cin and Fallon’s slow burn. While they were moving fast, I do think they also put in work to get to know each other just as quickly, so I enjoyed getting to know them both better. But Cin and Fallon were there to act as the wise/smug married couple in this instance to advise the new lovebirds and to remind me I enjoyed their story trajectory a bit more.

Getting technical

I wondered how long the demons had been in town, since Brie had not met Felix when the story starts. He says repeatedly that he visited Cin and Fallon. So why had they not met each other yet? I’m not going to quibble about it, though. It just stuck out to me.

Another question, I have more in this book than I did for the first book – there was a part with smoke tentacles (?) that I’m not entirely sure how that happened. And that connects to me not understanding human and demon power sets in this world. Do werewolves or humans have this power? Or were the tentacles just a spell gone wrong? In this series magic rules don’t seem to be relevant. Another hand wave, don’t ask too many questions about powers, the magic seems to be more about vibes.

I can’t tell if the villain was really defeated, since it was a false alarm in the first book. This is a trilogy so I’m wondering how Myva will come back in book 3…but I’m not sure I should be wondering that. I thought she was gone after the first book…but then she came back.

Also my most egregious callout is about Brie. She is able to recall all book details. She’s an avid reader, there’s NO WAY.

You’ll like this book, if…

You’ll like this book, if you enjoyed That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon. Plus, if you listen to Beedle the Bardcore while reading.

✅ Spinoff novella nomination:

I want to see more of Usha and her first mate, Ambrose. They have to be book 4, pretty please, or at least a novella. More mead mishaps!
