📝 What is That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Human about?:

All children are told fairy tales, some epic adventures, and others about pitiful princesses waiting to be rescued. Cherry always hated those stories, wondering why the princesses didn’t rescue themselves. Ironically, she now finds herself trapped in a tower by a dragon, unable to leave, and just when she thinks she sees hope, it’s shattered by another dragon.

📚 Genre: romantasy
🎧 Format: E-Book
💞 Feels: ⭐⭐⭐

This book felt like a return to the first book, That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon, but watered down. Dante and Cherry spend a lot of time apart, which did the romance a disservice. Maybe keeping them apart was to increase the tension, but I was just ready for them to be in the same room again and dispense with the misunderstanding. Miscommunication (or no communication) is one of my least favorite tropes in a romance.

Miscommunication makes up a majority of this book. Dante and Cherry are brought together through miscommunication, the “villain” has been keeping Cherry captive because of miscommunication, the story is being drawn out because of miscommunication. So this book was a bit frustrating for me to read. But out of appreciation for the two previous books I stuck with reading the tale, for a little crumb of seeing Cherry and Dante together.

A saving grace was having past characters make appearances in the book. Not nearly enough of Fallon and Felix were present in the book. But I was still glad to see them giving Dante advice on how to win Cherry over.

Getting technical

I think this book was more about reliving the vibes of the other two books than having a real structured plot and character development. There was character development and growth, that I appreciated, but the plot was sort of just there. I hope the next book in the series can continue with a strong and ingenious female lead, a villain that makes sense, explain the magic elements or not, and find a balance between slow burn and insta love.

You’ll like this book, if…

You’ll like this book, if you’ve enjoyed reading all of the other books in the Mead Mishap Series, That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon and That Time I Got Drunk and Yeeted a Love Potion at a Werewolf.

✅ Spinoff novella nomination:

I’m just going to keep saying I want a spinoff novella with Usha and Ambrose, until it happens. I did see that Kimberly Lemming is working on this book when I was poking around Goodreads, so I’m thrilled.
