📝 What is that time i got drunk and saved a demon about?:

All Cin wanted was a peaceful life, maybe get a cat and expand the family spice farm—anything but an adventure with face-ripping orcs. However, fate has other plans. After drunkenly saving the demon Fallon, Cin is reluctantly dragged into his quest to kill an evil witch enslaving his people. On the plus side, Fallon keeps accidentally burning off his shirt.

📚 Genre: romantasy
🎧 Format: E-Book
💞 Feels: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I was hooked after reading a sample of the first 2 chapters of this book. When I finished the sample I immediately bought the e-book and started reading. I definitely should’ve been going to sleep. But it was so much fun following Cinnamon and Fallon’s adventures to kill a lich/witch; and meet the friends they made along the way.

Cinnamon and Fallon had me chuckling throughout the book. It was a cozy tale, even with all the violence, spicy innuendo and world-ending villains. I automatically wanted to be friends with Cinnamon, with her snarky takes and desire to stay home. Fallon was her perfect foil; making her step out of her bubble and explore.

Although, this book has medieval vibes what really had me locked in was the contemporary romance banter. Can’t resist a cozy fantasy, with contemporary dialogue – and plumbing exists in this world, it’s perfectl! Throughout the book Cinnamon is growing and changing with each new mission they complete, stretching herself a little bit more. From what she tells us about herself as a child, it’s more like she’s becoming more of herself and waking up from holding herself back.

Getting technical

I don’t have any dislikes for this book. It was great to experience, I mean I read it in one night, I couldn’t stop. While I enjoyed the book, the ending battle was a little rushed. The book seems more about the journey and not the conclusion, though.

Also, I’m still not really clear on the demon (and human?) power sets. Mainly, how the lich was able to gain and maintain her powers was muddled. But how the powers work also felt like something I could hand wave. Like does it really matter?

You’ll like this book, if…

You’ll like this book, if you enjoyed Legends & Lattes – but you wish there had been more romance and battles.

✅ Spinoff novella nomination:

The Innkeeper, Usha, should find a demon to pair up with.
