This was a sweet story. The romance tropes were present, but not in a way that I found predictable. Any time I guessed something was going to happen, it luckily didn’t happen. If I start guessing plot twists correctly it’s not a good sign. All of the characters grew on me, making me want to read the book that pre-dates this release, The Neighbor Favor, just to get more time with the sisters.
Their mother was a pain – I think the fact that I can’t stand her is a plus for the author, she wrote a truly obnoxious mother 🤣 Made me happy that she is not my mom. Now do I want to see her again? I don’t – but I am aware I’m going to have to deal with her again in The Neighbor Favor. So it’ll be a bit of a regression for her in that book. I’ll just grin and bear it when I read that book.
But back to the positives, Violet and Xavier. It was nice to see how they’d grown and matured over the years, of course they couldn’t be completely perfect or the book wouldn’t have progressed past a few chapters. Can’t get drama out of them if they’re not miscommunicating or not speaking at all?! Xavier seemed further evolved than Violet, but I think they both probably need therapy. Xavier to work on his self-esteem and Violet to work on her self-care.
They were sweet together, good friends, I didn’t really feel overwhelming romantic tension between them, they were just nice. Nice, is great after all of the romantasy drama I’ve been living through lol.
✅ Spinoff novella nomination:
Super excited to read about Iris and Angel, in The Love Lyric (Spring 2025). It seems like he falls first (from the little kernels throughout The Partner Plot, I think he already “fell”) and she’s gonna need some convincing. I think I’ll get to see them meet in The Neighbor Favor 😍
