It was good to see what had distracted Hades during Persephone’s side of the story A Touch of Ruin, but where I found Hades’ perspective more engrossing in A Game of Fate, this time I found his story a bit tedious. I wasn’t all that interested in the seedy underbelly and power war that is unfolding in this series. I really just wanted to see more of Persephone, but she wasn’t really around much. And since she’s struggling in this book, her absence was really annoying.
Anyway, the rating should make it clear that this is the end of me trying to give this series another chance. Looking back through my Goodreads – it looks like Persephone’s books are getting better and Hades’ books are getting worse! I’ve now read five of the books in this series; and I’ve only given two of the books 3 stars and the other three (!) that I’ve read are all 2 stars. So I’m done.
There’s a new book coming out – from Persephone’s perspective which gives me hope. But I’ve removed the book from our 2024 Most Anticipated Reads list. I just can’t anymore.
Love Greek mythology, but there has got to be a better alternative to this; and I’m going to find it!!
✅ Spinoff novella nomination:
Zolfie, Persephone’s Amazonian bodyguard – I liked learning more about her background and how exactly Hades saved her by making her a bodyguard.
