📝 What is A CRUEL THIRST About?:
“A fledgling vampire and a headstrong vampire huntress must work together—against their better judgment—to rid the world of monsters in this irresistible young adult romantasy.”
📚 Genre: ya romantasy

Enjoyed the dual POV and scholarly journal entries to give me more information about the world in between the story taking shape. Lalo is sweet and Carolina’s ambition is heartwarming.
The beginning of the story was interesting. Getting to learn about the rules of the world being shaped, how the vampires act, control their thirst and avoid being found out. Once the two main characters were interacting the story sort of slowed down. I didn’t have a problem with slowing down a bit to see them get to know more about each other. But I didn’t really feel any romantic chemistry between them. I mean I was being told they found each other attractive, but it all felt a little rushed.
Halfway through I was rooting for them to succeed in their goal of ridding the world of monsters, not necessarily falling for each other. It was a fun and, at times, funny read. Their humors and snark made the reading experience pleasant. I’m easy to please, as I love all vampire content.
Getting technical
The end of the book was a little muddled for me. Like there was a lot going on, in what I think was a way to bring a sense of urgency. But I still felt like the book was moving slow and extraneous things were happening. So a lot happened that amounted to nothing for me. But there were loose ends to tie up that had been created early on or midway through. And being YA the “problems” were resolved rather quickly, with complications that evaporated.
I was rooting for this one, because, vampires. But I have to acknowledge that I’m not the core audience. And since I’m not the audience, this is probably going to be my last YA for a while. I think it’s a combination of the fantasy genre (the trend of stuffing in a bunch of stuff) and then the YA romance of it all. I need a little more tension and no outside distractions (annoying or more charismatic side characters). The mystery of the vampire issue was pretty cool.
You’ll like this book, if…
You’ll like this book, if you were a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, have read My Roommate is a Vampire, and are worryingly obsessed with vampires.
✅ Spinoff novella nomination:
I was wondering if werewolves were in this world. But the person I thought would be a werewolf was annoying to me. So I don’t really want to see him in a novella as a werewolf; but maybe he could be redeemed!
